“God and I would walk together in the sand, and he would look down and see only one pair of footprints and it would be mine, carrying him up the New York Times bestseller list with all my quips and truisms and fake hair.”
This is a vivid sentence. Sometimes we need a little “feisty” moment to shake things up. Besides, it’s the most likely thing to go viral.
My first book (hardback! Nice advance!) was in the pre-internet dark ages (or was it the Golden Age?) of Christian publishing. Welp, it just gets harder and harder to be seen (and bank-rolled) these days. And social media? It's like standing in a stadium trying to scream over everyone else who is screaming for attention. Indie publishing R Us these days, and I'm actually pretty darn happy and love that I can pick my cover designer, the editor, all the things. And the books turn out lovely. After 5 books published, I may not have Voskamp's level of attention, but those who said my writing made them cry? Priceless. Those who said they now see God in science and creation? Job done. I'd rather be content with "faithful," than miserable with always striving.
Laurie, thank you for posting this comment and sharing some of your story! The publishing industry can be fickle, can't it? I'm glad you have found your way and are continuing to share your voice with the world!
