Hey all,
Many of you know I lived in California for about a decade, until 2022. Unfortunately, I actually lived in the same area as the Eaton Fire (Altadena / Pasadena), and I have friends who have lost homes due to the blaze.
My church in LA, Church of the Resurrection, sent out its weekly email and listed two GoFundMe’s for two couples who are friends of mine. They are incredible humans with incredible hearts and are facing the long journey of starting over. I know many of us are watching the news and unsure what to do or how to help, so if you have a few extra dollars, these two couples would be great people to donate towards.
When I first started attending Rez, it was Irene and Rob who took me under their wing. While they were still dating, they invited me over to Rob’s apartment on the second floor of mainstreet in South Pasadena for pizza. I made a comment about his midcentury modern fan, and then a year later received a gift of that exact fan from them. They have celebrated birthdays with me and checked in on me during low moments. My grandad would call them “good people.”
Michael’s joy and kindness were immediately evident to me when I met him. And he has followed that joy and that kindness into a career in mental health counseling. Claire is much the same; passionate about teaching kids in the elementary school she works in. Each time I come back to visit, they are quick to hug me and are the couple who asks you a thousand questions about yourself before you’re able to ask them one. Just like Irene and Rob, they are good people.
If you can’t spare any money at the moment, that is totally fine! Please be praying for everyone affected by this tragedy, and also be looking, as Mr. Rogers famously said, for the helpers. There are many.
cheering (and praying) for you,
drew
